Overview of Italian literature

The course is designed for students who already possess satisfactory knowledge of the Italian language, and who are interested in learning more about the history of Italian literature, from its origins to the present day, with particular attention dedicated to the most important authors and periods.

The course, comprising one lesson per week, each lasting two hours, also includes readings from contemporary writers and their respective analysis during lessons, in order to expand students’ vocabulary and encourage their skills in communication.

Overview of Italian art history

This course is designed for students who already possess satisfactory knowledge of the Italian language, and who are interested in learning about Italian art history, from the Middle Ages up to 20th-century avant-garde currents, with special reference to works of art in Lombardy.

The course comprises one lesson per week, each of two hours. During lessons, the most important artists and movements are presented, with visual material in the form of slide projections.
The course is completed by two guided visits to churches, museums or important buildings in the city of Milan.

The study of opera librettos

This course is designed for students who already possess satisfactory knowledge of the Italian language, and who are interested, whether for professional reasons or for personal interest, in studying the specific form of language used in opera librettos.

The course comprises one lesson per week, each of two hours. During the course, a brief analysis of the history of Western theatre and more specifically of opera is followed by a detailed study of the most important Italian libretto authors. There is the opportunity of working on texts of specific interest to the students.
